Title: Ideas to increase player retention
Post by: snoogans. on August 30, 2017, 05:01:00 AM
We have tons of servers. We have tons of players. But with every fractions or ratio, there's the thing that keeps it together. Whether that be : or / there's something. That something for SwapShop is player retention. Which, as of now, is not looking too grand.

List of possible ideas coming from old discussions I had before:

That's pretty much all I have for the time being, however I'd love for their to be more added to this topic.

I think number 1 is out of the question because the trade and some of the orange servers are mainly what I find the player base is always on. everything else I agree with I think there are too many servers that just stay empty that could be changed or taken out.

I'm with Scorched, Most of our players are on either #4, #20, and #35 all of which are Trade_Plaza_2. Maybe change a handful of our servers that player's rarely use, but other than that I suggest keeping Plaza Maps

Personally I'm not a fan of the whole "Rank System" this goes the same with others, it make make others feel bad that they can't get high enough or people may use it to get what they want.

Well the point system would give players something to work towards and to play towards but maybe give rewards or something for the rank.

I think the last option is the most reasonable, at least to start with. How many of our servers have been playerless for more than a month? I'm willing to bet a large fraction of them

Player retention has always been an "unsolvable" problem.

I really like the idea of a rank system, though i wouldn't base it on time, cause most can just idle and get to a high rank within 2 or 3 nights. The rank system may make it funner in a way for some, including myself.

And i also support the idea of taking some servers out to minimize costs, most servers are empty, and even when players are on they always flock to certain servers, while servers such as our Turbine server, and others, get very few visitors,

As I stated back in August, the idea of a rank system does sound good on paper but, if you take the time to go around the servers and have conversion with most of them, you get some good and sometimes useful information.

For example, in regards of your rank system, and from what information. Some players agree with you in adding it, but whenever someone brags saying "I'm rank 13 out of 1000 on such and such server" it either does one of two things. It will make the other players feel bad that they don't have good ranks or they may just flat out antagonize said player. In my own eyes and thoughts, the rank system can also be abused too, I've seen multiple times on ranked servers where players will harass others calling themselves "the superior player" and has often led to things such as: Bullying in giving items because they are better, ignoring the "weak players" because they don't deserve the right to anything. All in all I don't think ranking our servers would be wise.

Most of these suggestions have been moved on into other parts of the forums as well as discussions on the discord.
