Voting System for Applications

The voting system used to be quite different back in the day.

When I first applied at SwapShop all you needed was five referrals from others stating why you were a good fit for administrator. Then, Head administration was allowed to either deny or accept your application, regardless of what people said. In other words Head administration had the final say. Not only that but any Head staff was allowed to make such a decision without prior notification to the others or a vote among the other Head staff.

For a time this worked out quite well. However it was decided that it should be handled differently. Back then anyone was allowed to apply. Applicants were quite colorful when they came in then. Then requirement criteria was created to "filter" applications. The voting system was not implemented until after my first leave.

There is flaw in the current system as if not many people vote, a applications fate can be decided by merely a few administrators.


I propose this for those that would be allowed to vote must meet at least one of the following criteria:
1. Be a Head Ataff Administrator.
2. Be a Recruit Specialist
3. Be active on the forums.

Meeting on of these requirements means you would be apart of a group allowed to vote on applications discussing them. Other administrators would be allowed to offer their input on the application and applicant as well if they wish but would not be allowed to vote.


Such is my idea.

It's the fact no one hardly ever voted which why we changed it. Only a handful of admins participate in application voting we have tried many ideas voting counselor being one of them and none seemed to work for a long enough time. If we can see more new people participate in forum activity it would be very helpful but only a few regular members and admins are even on forums on a regular basis.

I see what you guys mean. It seems like recently, a lot of the staff have been slacking off. Maybe the best thing to do right now is to start firing the ones that don't really do shit, like at all. There are some that are busy with work but they can't use that as an excuse forever. If they are unable to help the community, might as well demote them.

You hit the nail on the coffin. And if they want to solve the issue properly, they should use extreme measures to get more admins to vote.

Suggestion: If you don't vote on more than 70% of the apps in a month plus other contributing factors involving being active, you may face demotion.

Well I would say inform the current admins of this. Tell them they have to use the forums frequently and take reports from time to time. Make note of who follows this and who doesn't. Then those who don't will understand why they are being removed.

The way admins would be added into the "electoral college" group would be up to the Head Admins to decide. I just think we need more people making the final decisions. Y'know, as a STAFF, a TEAM. If my idea is pointless, which I can see why, then maybe someone else has a better idea that will still work.

I know I've been dead for weeks but honestly, this is probably the best idea I've heard. The shortened version anyways. Because Psy is right. Though Head Admins should have overall jurisdiction, there should be a special group (even if it isn't like a special forum tag) for helping with the voting process.

I guess it's another way for more people to have a stronger impact really.

Why would they change their behavior? You are telling them they can't vote, so why would they try?

Follow up post concerning all admins votes counting:

Personally I think everyone liked this better, active or not. Sure I'm probably not one to talk since I haven't been active as of late, but going back to when I was, I really enjoyed having my voice be heard. I enjoyed the feeling of being able to pick people who would strive to make this community better. It was like an honor really. And like I said, I'm not the most active person but when I do cast my vote I at least try to put in effort in to explaining why I voted yes, or why I voted no.

And going back to what Sixteen said, I agree.

Why would we want to vote if it doesn't even count? Sure it should be up to the  head admins to discuss what they think but... Our votes should still count.

Because if you ask me, I personally wouldn't wanna vote if I knew it meant nothing. But since it's my job I have to.
