Keyboard Warrior - Game Server Admin Application
« on: June 24, 2017, 06:06:27 PM »
1. Which position do you wish to apply for?
Game Server Admin

2. Have you ever previously applied for a position in SwapShop?
Yes

3. List any current staff members you know or have any personal relations with.
Senpai-Ultimaweeb, Zabiroc, Penny Fitzgerald, Nukebirb, Psykotic, Gerbil, Lunarium, Sipow, Spykotic

4. Do you have a microphone that you are willing to use?
Yes

5. Age:
18

6. What Time Zone do you live in?
Pacific Daylight time (PDT)

7. List and describe any previous supervisory, administrative or management experience, in or out of the game:
I have no administrative or management experience.

8. What are your goals in this community - or, why do you want to hold this position?
My goal is to help keep the community servers a safe, fun place for all people.  I want to hold this position to moderate servers when other admins and moderators are unavailable.

9. How much time will you be able to spend:
A. On the servers?
I will be able to spend up to 5-10 hours each day or every other day.

B. On the forums?
1-2 hours on weekdays and 3-6 hours on Weekends.

10. How long have you been playing on our group of servers?
I've been playing for roughly a year and a half now.

11. Do you speak any languages other than English?
No.

12. Link your SteamRep and other sources that show your reputation here:
http://steamrep.com/profiles/76561198148738849

13. If you have alternate accounts, list any alternate accounts that you own:

14. Describe a time when you lost control of your emotions and how you were able to cope with the situation (P.S: This can be about anything; it doesn't have to be from in-game.):
I lost control of my emotions when I found out about a certain family problem I refuse to disclose publicly.  I became angry at a specific member of my family.  I was able to cope with the situation by writing an email directed towards the person, but never sent it.  It helped me to relax and calm down

15. What do you consider in your personality to be strengths? What do you consider in your personality to be weaknesses?
I consider my outgoing and talkative personality to be a great strength because it helps me to make friends and get to know people better.  I consider a weakness to be my tendency to try to be perfect which can often make me blame myself for all kinds of things.

16. Assess these attributes from 1 to 10 based on how you see yourself:
  • Logical: 8
  • Patient: 7
  • Reactive: 9
  • Creative: 10
  • Polite: 7
  • Reasonable: 8
  • Objective: 9
  • Perceptive: 9
  • Compassionate: 8
  • Troubleshooter: 10
  • Honest: 10

17. After you become an admin, how would you react to these situations below:
A: How would you deal with a person who was making racist comments?
I would ask the user to stop making racial slurs.  After several warnings I would mute and/or gag the person.

B: A group of players are offended by remarks that another player made, but you yourself do not find them to be offensive. How would you respond?
It would all depend on the remark.  If it was a racial slur or anything that was in the rules and guidelines.  I would treat it like any other situation where someone was making racial slurs.  If not a part of the rules I would try to resolve the situation.

C: How would you deal with players who micspam?
I would give the user several warnings not to mic spam and if they continued I would mute them for a small period of time.

D: Another TF2SS admin is exploiting their powers in game; what will you do about it?
I would record what the admin is doing and try to get other admins as witnesses and report it to one of the head administrators.

E: What would you do when answering a report that [username] is speed hacking on one of our servers?
I would join the server and gather up evidence of the user speed hacking such as a demo.  I would also get other admins to help me check and confirm that the person was speed hacking.  If the user was confirmed to be hacking by me and other admins present then a permanent ban would be issued.

F: A regular user threatens to ban another player if they do not comply with rules that do not exist. What will you do about it?
I would remind them of the rules and tell them that that's not in the rules.  If the player insisted to make up rules then I would kick the person from the server.

G: A group of enemy players dominate you, ignoring everyone else and changing teams if you join the team they are on, killing only you over and over again. What will you do about it?
I would continue to play the game normally and perhaps purchase something using my "/shop" credits if I had any.

H: How do you deal with a player who comments publicly that: you are an asshole, the server sucks ass, and continues to insult anyone who kills them with profanity & by screaming on the mic?
I would ask the person to calm down.  if they insisted screaming on the mic and continued with this inappropriate behavior I would have them gagged and muted for a short period of time.

I: A regular player on our server says that they will offer free godmode for anyone who trades a hat to them. What will you do about it?
I would instantly ban the player for attempting to scam.

J: A player who bought the Headless Horsemann perk from the shop complains after another player slays him/her. What do you tell the slayed Headless Horsemann player?
I would tell the player that it was a good try and try to keep the player positive.  I might also encourage them to purchase something else from the shop.

K: How do you define Admin abuse?
I define admin abuse as unfairly using power to gain an advantage, typically a power that is unavailable to normal users.  Examples might be killing a player constantly, freezing a player, etc

After filling out this application, what are your feelings toward becoming a Server Admin on our servers?
I feel somewhat nervous after filling out the application, but I am also confident towards becoming a server admin.

I consider my outgoing and talkative personality to be a great strength because it helps me to make friends and get to know people better.  I consider a weakness to be my tendency to try to be perfect which can often make me blame myself for all kinds of things.

Would you see these strengths and weakness impacting you as an administrator?
       If so:
What situations can you see them impacting?

How might you overcome the situation?

16. Assess these attributes from 1 to 10 based on how you see yourself:
  • Logical: 8
  • Patient: 7
  • Reactive: 9
  • Creative: 10
  • Polite: 7
  • Reasonable: 8
  • Objective: 9
  • Perceptive: 9
  • Compassionate: 8
  • Troubleshooter: 10
  • Honest: 10

A. What lead you to rate these the way that you have?

B. What lead you specificly to rate Honest, Troubleshooter, and Creative a 10?

C: How would you deal with players who micspam?
I would give the user several warnings not to mic spam and if they continued I would mute them for a small period of time.

If you unmute the player what steps might you take to help prevent the same situation from happening again?

E: What would you do when answering a report that [username] is speed hacking on one of our servers?
I would join the server and gather up evidence of the user speed hacking such as a demo.  I would also get other admins to help me check and confirm that the person was speed hacking.  If the user was confirmed to be hacking by me and other admins present then a permanent ban would be issued.

If taking a report such as this, what signs(red flags) would you look for to identify a hacker VS a skilled player?

Would you see these strengths and weakness impacting you as an administrator?
I do believe, in some aspect, that this might impact me as a server admin.
       If so:
What situations can you see them impacting?
I can see my friendly personality impacting how I handle certain situations in which someone has a hard time controlling themselves

How might you overcome the situation?
I may overcome the situation by bringing a situation under control before it escalates

16. Assess these attributes from 1 to 10 based on how you see yourself:
  • Creative: 10
  • Troubleshooter: 10
  • Honest: 10

A. What lead you to rate these the way that you have?
What lead me to rate myself the way I did was my character and how I handle simple, comlex, difficult, or stressful situations.

B. What lead you specificly to rate Honest, Troubleshooter, and Creative a 10?
I rated 10 for honesty because I am very open and forthcoming to people about things.  I always tell the truth and take responsibility for my actions when there is a time I have done something wrong.
I rated 10 for troubleshooter because I always love to help people out.  If someone is having problems I am always trying to help resolve the situation.  The situation could be technology, emotions, conflicts, etc.
I rated 10 for creativity because I feel as though I have creative ways of doing certain things and I think up creative ideas allot.  If I can't find one way to do something I will try to find another way that is either as effective or more effective

If you unmute the player what steps might you take to help prevent the same situation from happening again?
I would warn the user that if they're caught mic spamming again their mute and/or gag may be extended for a longer period of time or permanent, I would also inform other admins that this user has been warned before about mic spam

If taking a report such as this (speed exploits), what signs(red flags) would you look for to identify a hacker VS a skilled player?
I would look for signs of abnormal duration of enhanced speed and purchases from shop like extra speed or rtd rolls that would enhance someone's speed since rolls and purchased items are displayed publicly in the chat.  I would also take into consideration the class that is being played.  All these things would help determine a hacker vs a Skilled Player.  A speed hacker isn't someone who purchases extra speed from shop or rolls "increased speed" using rtd.  A speed hacker is someone who moves at abnormally faster speeds for an abnormally long duration of time

Could you be more specific in why those traits might impact you?
And
Could you explain the thought process and steps you would use to control said situation/s?

They might impact me by helping to bring the situation under control before having to resort to kick, mute gag, etc.  It would help in situations where players new to the swap shop server who don't know the rules join a server
The thought process would be "try to do what you can to bring the situation under control before having to resort to methods like mute and/or gag".  The steps would be to calmly converse with the person and let them know what they're doing is wrong

Not an Important question just curious.

7. List and describe any previous supervisory, administrative or management experience, in or out of the game:
I have no administrative or management experience.

What wanted you to start now? The question in my eyes is optional, not much use other than to get to know someone better.

In seriousness, I enjoyed reading this one, good luck in the following days ^w^

I wanted to start for the experience.  I think it would be a great experience for a possible future career.  I also see the opportunity to contribute a community such as swap shop.

In seriousness, I enjoyed reading this one, good luck in the following days ^w^

Thank you.  I appreciate it.

Let me give you a situation:

Say you do have admin powers. Some people were tormenting you on the servers and getting into personal issues that you would've wished to ignore. It's hurting you emotionally. How would you handle it?

I do not let my personal feelings or emotions get in the way of doing my job.  I also don't normally or easily take offense to things.  Since this might be a disruption to the server, and since torment could imply insult.  I would handle the situation as I would if it were happening to any other player.  I would warn the people/users about their behavior and take action if they continued with their behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to apply for TF2SwapShop administration. We regret to inform you that our staff does not believe that your application satisfies our standards for server administration for the moment. Unfortunately, we must decline your application.

If you are still interested in a server administration position here, you may submit a new application and reapply after 3 months have passed (10/1/17).

We encourage you to use that time to revise and improve upon your application.
