Kitty3Muffin - Game Server Admin Application
« on: April 03, 2018, 02:23:48 PM »
1. Which position do you wish to apply for?
Game Server Admin

2. Have you ever previously applied for a position in SwapShop?
Yes

3. List any current staff members you know or have any personal relations with.
All current active admins due to once being an admin myself.

4. Do you have a microphone that you are willing to use?
No

5. Age:
19

6. What Time Zone do you live in?
Pacific Time

7. List and describe any previous supervisory, administrative or management experience, in or out of the game:
I have had a good amount of time doing supervisory and such being a Swapshop Admin and a trial of some administration in Gmod such as reporting rule-breakers to admins and placing mutes so I'd say I've had some experience.

8. What are your goals in this community - or, why do you want to hold this position?
The first time I felt super ready and confident about being an admin and I still am. I do have an idea of why I was rejected and I have learned from my mistakes during that period and know that I shouldn't have done it. It was quite stupid of me and I got carried away. It won't happen again though, I assure you. Many times when I go on the servers, people can become quite a nuisance while breaking the rules and don't really take it seriously when told by normal players to stop. When an admin helps with the situation, it can be suppressed quickly and make everyone's time there better. I want to help them by doing that and I feel confident enough that I can

9. How much time will you be able to spend:
A. On the servers?
On average, around 5 or 6 hours on weekdays most of the time and almost all day on holidays and weekends so it has its benefits. The servers have long admin supervision on weekends when most players on. If at anytime I can flex my schedule without getting in the way of work and other tasks too much, I'll be on the servers more. Again, If for some reason I can't be on, I will make sure other admins are aware.

B. On the forums?
Usually I'd check the forums every morning or evening for around 15 minutes before going on Swapshop servers. Occasionally I'll also check the forums one last time before heading off for the night so I can stay updated on important posts or bigger problems that should be dealt with first at that moment or tomorrow depending on the subject.

10. How long have you been playing on our group of servers?
Quite a while now. Around 2 or 3 years I'd say at least.

11. Do you speak any languages other than English?
Some French but most of it I've forgotten so it's not much use anymore.

12. Link your SteamRep and other sources that show your reputation here:

13. If you have alternate accounts, list any alternate accounts that you own:
I do not have any alt accounts. I will however notify admins if I do.

14. Describe a time when you lost control of your emotions and how you were able to cope with the situation (P.S: This can be about anything; it doesn't have to be from in-game.):
To be honest, I've been in a situation like this many many times and it can be hard depending on what caused me to lose it due to conditions. However, most of the time, I can calm myself down with a variety of methods such as the common method, counting up from 1 to 10 and just ignoring whats making me angry (Which I've just recently found out helps and should make calming myself down much easier now.)

15. What do you consider in your personality to be strengths? What do you consider in your personality to be weaknesses?
Quick thinking most of the time, pretty active, fast typer. Even though I'm a quick thinker sometimes, I do have trouble deciding things time to time but I am working on it. I can get stressed out too which can be hard to fight against because of again, conditions but I still am coming up with new ideas to help with it. I'm sure it'll be all figured out soon which will make my job a bit easier.

16. Assess these attributes from 1 to 10 based on how you see yourself:
  • Logical: 8
  • Patient: 8
  • Reactive: 9
  • Creative: 8
  • Polite: 8
  • Reasonable: 8
  • Objective: 9
  • Perceptive: 9
  • Compassionate: 9
  • Troubleshooter: 9
  • Honest: 9

17. After you become an admin, how would you react to these situations below:
A: How would you deal with a person who was making racist comments?
I would use c_say to warn the individual(s) making the racist comments to stop as it is against the rules to say or text such and can result in punishments such as being muted and or gagged for a prolonged amount of time. Racist comments aren't really funny even if you're joking.

B: A group of players are offended by remarks that another player made, but you yourself do not find them to be offensive. How would you respond?
I would ask the offended players what part of the offensive remarks they were offended by. If any of it makes sense in anyway, I'd ask them why the offensive remarks were made and who started them. If none of it makes any sense, I'd ask witnesses what happened and decide from there whether or not a punishment should be made and what punishment. Another thing I'd look out for is the amount of times a report has been placed on or received by the player about the same issue which can make dealing with the situation much easier for already being known as a troublemaker.

C: How would you deal with players who micspam?
A warning through c_say would be the best approach in my opinion as it appears in the middle of the screen. If the micspammer decides not to stop after receiving a warning or two to stop micspamming, I'd issue a mute and or gag (If the player is spamming in chat and not on the mic) after around 15 or 30 seconds of issuing the warning(s). The main reason I give them 15 to 30 seconds is that they need more time to actually stop the micspamming sometimes.

D: Another TF2SS admin is exploiting their powers in game; what will you do about it?
I'd first check the forums and group to see if it has to do with an event or such and if it does, I'd do nothing about it as they aren't doing anything wrong. If it doesn't, I'd contact the admin and ask why they're exploiting their powers. If I receive an answer from the abusing admin, I'd make sure to notify other admins (supposedly the Head Admins) about the situation and give the information I've gathered on it to them so they can handle the situation.

E: What would you do when answering a report that [username] is speed hacking on one of our servers?
I'd join the game and spectate the accused player to see whether or not the report is true or not. If it does seem they are moving quite fast, I'd look into it. Now, people could be moving really fast because of the RTD effect High Speed and could be mistaken as cheating software especially if the player has a lot of credits and continuously buys the effect from !shop. However, if it doesn't seem they are using the RTD effect or they're moving much faster than the effect provides, I'd check the logs to see if they've purchased or rolled the effect recently. If it appears they haven't gotten the effects at all, I'd issue a permanent ban on the player.

F: A regular user threatens to ban another player if they do not comply with rules that do not exist. What will you do about it?
First of all, they don't have the necessary privileges to ban players so they can't do anything if they don't comply with their made up rule. I'd see what the rule they're making up is then tell the player to read the rules on the forums. If they refuse to do so and continue, insisting that it is real, I'd warn the player for both threatening a player, and making up rules that don't exist just so others will listen to them. Yet if they still continue, I'd issue a gag and or mute on them as well as another message to read the rules on the forums to avoid being punished again.

G: A group of enemy players dominate you, ignoring everyone else and changing teams if you join the team they are on, killing only you over and over again. What will you do about it?
What they're doing isn't against the rules. They can do it as much as they please and not get punished. If I do get in such a situation, I'll just stay in a safe area away from them. However, if they use the !shop commands such as noclip to their advantage to get to me, I'd just enter spectator and try again to see if they stop after a while. If not, I might leave and come back later when most have left or decided to stop.

H: How do you deal with a player who comments publicly that: you are an asshole, the server sucks ass, and continues to insult anyone who kills them with profanity & by screaming on the mic?
Warn them through c_say or any other admin message command to stop micspamming and saying rude and unnecessarily offensive comments. If they continue, I would most likely recommend that they find another server if "the server sucks ass" then issue the necessary punishment for the situation which is a gag and or mute. Such actions don't make much sense. Why play on a server you don't like then get angry at everyone? You're contradicting yourself by playing the server you don't like therefore you get yourself angry by continuing to play on it.

I: A regular player on our server says that they will offer free godmode for anyone who trades a hat to them. What will you do about it?
Warn the supposedly scamming player to stop and others to not believe what they say as it is not possible. If they continue in any way, I'd issue a ban on them for the necessary time needed. This type of stuff is serious especially since most of the servers are trading servers and need to be dealt with seriously. A mute and or gag won't do anything because no matter what, they'll find a way around like trading with players and texting them through the trade chat that they'll give them godmode for a hat. But banning them from the servers stops them joining and finding scammable victims.

J: A player who bought the Headless Horsemann perk from the shop complains after another player slays him/her. What do you tell the slayed Headless Horsemann player?
That the HHH perk is a purchasable ability for everyone and there are a variety of many other abilities that can very easily counter that perk. Just cause you bought it doesn't mean you won't be stopped by others. This is what one of the !shop's purposes is for. Swapshop is a server that isn't really meant to be super serious but at the same time, serious in some ways. But that's what makes it so interesting about being there. You never know what will happen.

K: How do you define Admin abuse?
Using the powers you were trusted to use responsibly to your advantage when not needed. Admin abuse is just a thing that shouldn't exist in anyway. Why be a person that has a job meant for helping people when you're just gonna use it however you want to make it worse instead? You will easily be called out for abusing your powers and dealt with seriously and quickly by admins doing their job properly cause lets be serious, using your admin powers to have godmode to spawncamp the enemies isn't really a smart idea.

After filling out this application, what are your feelings toward becoming a Server Admin on our servers?
I feel like this time I won't make the mistakes I made last time. I promise. Even though it wasn't a life-effecting thing that happened, I have never really forgiven myself about the stupid things I did but being given this opportunity to try again, I'll be able prove myself and others that I've learned from what I did wrong the first time. Other than me feeling sorry for myself there, I'm ready and prepared for what is to come.

Thank you for taking the time to apply for TF2SwapShop administration. We regret to inform you that our staff does not believe that your application satisfies our standards for server administration for the moment. Unfortunately, we must decline your application.

If you are still interested in a server administration position here, you may submit a new application and reapply after 3 months have passed
